The halfway point of our time in Turkey and another day of fortuitous connections.

We have a good camp breakfast with Starbucks Via coffee, hot chocolate and oatmeal, since we had plenty of water. We were walking on the trail by 8:30, meeting many goats on the way and one ferocious dog. Fortunately, the goat herder was near by and ultimately got control of the dog.

After about 5 kilometers of hiking, we climbed to a very small village (10ish houses) where there was a possibility of catching a dolmus to the next town and some relief from the strong, hot sun. When we asked about a dolmus to Demre, this precipitated a gathering of several people, some discussion, and then--with some hilarity--the declaration that a nearby old sedan would be the dolmus. They honked for neighbors and a car full of seven people, including us, took off for Demre. We negotiated a price. Everyone seemed excited for the outting and the curiosity of transporting us. Much fun! This is, however, the second time when, once we mention that we are from the states, people comment on how rich we must be and that they should raise the price.

Myra is a historic site outside of Demre, first occupied around 500 BC. There are graves built into cliffs and many old carvings. As we were walking there with our packs we were offered a ride by a man who happens to run the only pansyion in town. Myra is quite interesting and the fresh squeezed pomegranite juice reviving.

Rain is forecast for tomorrow so we are trying to pick our next destination.
